ABOUT
Ash spent 13 years serving in the British Army as a Combat Medical Technician, an experience that gave her not just a career, but a lens through which she sees history: from the ground up, and from the inside out.

Since leaving service, she has built a profile as a public historian and academic. Ash holds a BA(Hons) in Leadership and Management, an MA in War, Culture and Society, and a PGCE with QTS. She is now a Leverhulme Trust-funded doctoral researcher at Durham University, exploring the SOE's clandestine operations, its secret agents and the cultural legacy of espionage that persists in society today. In 2025, she was selected as a BBC/AHRC New Generation Thinker - recognition that her work resonates well beyond academia.

Ash is also a member of the IWM War and Conflict Subject Specialist Network and the Women's Royal Army Corps Association, two communities that reflect her commitment to keeping military history connected to the people who lived it.

The Soldier-Historian grew out of all of this — the service, the study, and a lifelong love of history that has never needed much encouragement. Browse the site, explore the stories, and enjoy.
